One of the things that Emily Eerdsman and I discussed when she was here was current design books. I’m incredibly fond of Thomas Jayne’s The Finest Rooms in America and I brought along a copy to our lunch.
Many of the rooms that people included in the Enduring Style series are in the book; many, many of the much beloved rooms of the last couple hundred years are in the book.
I like having them all together, like having all your best friends able to celebrate your birthday.
I had thought I would not dip my toe in the Enduring Styles series, but I am adding Todd Romano’s apartment featured both in Elle Decor and New York Social Diary.

Right!
aarrgghh—there's a rug in an old House and Garden (2004?) issue of Todd Romano's house or apartment that is very similar to your fabulous rug. Good excuse to thumb through my old issues.
now I'm still living in my parents' house, but someday I want to make a new home and live with my wife. I really love it when I found this blog, because I dream of having a nice house interior design. this blog makes me inspired. Thank you very much
I love all the white lampshades. They look like well behaved friends who would never embarrass one and always light up a party…even after it is long over.
Our computer crashed in September and we didn't replace it for two months so I spent a lot of time with past issues of magazines. I keep them all! His apartment is one that I looked at over and over again. Thank goodness I had a copy of the Jan/Feb 2007 elle decor.
Love everything about this apartment. Keep going back to the New York Social Diary website to get another look. Thanks for posting!
I saw the Jayne book at B&N and lost interest immediately because the cover pic looked so dowdy. Well. you know what they say. Will have to give it another look.
Topaz – go back and look again, really. There's the Menil House, Eames, Britt's apt, de la Renta, Courturier and shots of Hadley's sitting room I hadn't seen before. A treasure trove.
Am so thankful I found your blog..great post xx peggybraswelldesign.com
Now, you've got me wanting to know who did the room with the painting mounted on the mirrored wall! Love every inch of that space!
Perhaps Jayne's is comiling more designers and historical rooms for a future The Finest Rooms in America part 11.
I just received this book and it is a keeper! Great book to give as a gift. A most worthy and interesting selection of rooms represented.
The Hadley sitting room with the tourgoise insert framed in gilt..how fabulous…and idea one could adopt for oneself.
delightful blog, with a whiff of english way of speaking, lovely and straight to the point.. I have just discovered your blog and look forward to reading you again… loved the pics too.. J
I love this post!
